Window Tinting Questions Answered

What's the difference between ceramic and regular film?

Standard dyed film absorbs heat and fades over time, it can turn purple and bubble after 3–5 years. Ceramic film uses nano-ceramic particles to reject infrared heat rather than absorbing it. It rejects up to 60% of heat without being dark, doesn't fade, doesn't interfere with GPS, cell, or radio signals, and carries a lifetime warranty. It costs more but it's a permanent solution rather than a film you'll replace.

Is window tinting legal in Oregon?

Yes, with restrictions. Oregon law requires front side windows to allow at least 35% Visible Light Transmission. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be any darkness you want. Windshield tinting is permitted only in a strip at the top (above the AS-1 line). We'll confirm exactly what's legal for your specific vehicle before installing anything.

Will tinting affect my backup camera or GPS?

Quality ceramic films (Ceramic Pro, 3M, Llumar, Suntek) do not interfere with GPS, cellular signals, Bluetooth, or radio. Cheaper metalized films can cause signal disruption, this is one of the reasons we don't use them. Backup cameras see through tint normally. We flag any vehicle-specific considerations (like Tesla's rear windshield defroster) before installation.

How long does window tint take to install?

Most cars take 1.5–2.5 hours. SUVs and trucks with more glass surface take 2–3 hours. After installation there's a cure period of 2–5 days where small water bubbles are normal, they evaporate as the adhesive cures. During cure you shouldn't roll the windows down. We'll walk you through exactly what to expect at pick-up.

Can you remove old tint that's bubbling or turning purple?

Yes. Old tint removal is part of what we do, we charge a flat fee per window to remove failed film and clean the adhesive residue completely before applying new film. Don't try to peel it yourself, you'll leave adhesive behind that new film won't bond to properly. We quote removal cost upfront as part of your total.

Do you tint Tesla and EV windows?

Yes, we tint Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Rivian, and other EVs regularly. The glass panel roof on many EVs and the large front windshield require precise cuts, we use a plotted template rather than hand-cutting to ensure a clean fit. Ceramic film is especially beneficial for EVs because it reduces interior heat without blocking signals from the sensors and cameras embedded in the glass.
